Seaweed Harvesters Museum

The museum impressively illustrates the changes and the importance of this handcraft and the commercial applications from the begin of the 19th century up to nowadays.
In the past, the seaweed was burnt in the so-called soda-ash ovens, simple fosses lined with rocks which can still be discovered in the dunes. The main product to be produced was iodine tincture. Today, The seaweed harvesters and the associated industry are kept alive by the production of gelling agent for the alimentary business, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and others – all on the base of algae.
Since 2006, the museum welcomes you to its exhibition with an introductory multimedia show which shows you the impressive collection of more than 20 years of research done together with the seaweed harvesters of the region of the 'Pays des Abers' and 'Pays Pagan'.
